Award Season

June is award season! Unfortunately, Inside Hudson Pickle didn’t win the awards it was nominated for but I want to congratulate From Ant to Eagle by Alex Lyttle for winning the Red Cedar Book Award and The Bonaventure Adventures by Rachelle Delaney for winning the Chocolate Lily Award in the novel category.

It was such an honour to be nominated for these awards and I’m very grateful to the hard-working volunteers who organize them. Among other things, it gave me the opportunity to be involved in student interviews and visit Prince George! I also learned a lot about what students like to read (and how it sometimes differs from the preferences of gatekeepers like agents, publishers, teachers, and librarians).

I’m determined to author a book that will be nominated for future awards (and one day, a winner)! Thanks to everyone who continues to support me on this journey, both personally and professionally. Now back to my work-in-progress! Have a great summer!

Information on how to become a group leader for this reader’s choice award will be available in time for the upcoming school year. Thanks to the nomination committee and congrats to all the other nominees! Happy reading, everyone!!

Chocolate Lily Award Nomination

I’m excited to share that Inside Hudson Pickle is on the short list for the 2019 17th Annual Chocolate Lily Award in the Novel Category (grade 4-7)! BC schools and libraries interested in particpating in this reader’s choice award should check out the How to Participate page and join in the voting.

Last week was a good one for Hudson. His story also appeared in the Spring 2018 edition of Best Books for Kids & Teens, published by The Canadian Children’s Book Centre. Thanks for the support, everyone!!

And the GG winners are…

Congratulations to all the winners of this years Governor General’s Literary Award with a special shout to to Susin Nielsen – a fellow CWILL member from Vancouver.    I loved “Dear George Clooney: Please Marry My Mom” and I look forward to reading “The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larson.”

2012 Governor General Literary Award Finalists

Lots of great books to add to my “to read” list on Goodreads.  House Held Up by Trees is the only title I’ve read from the Children’s selection – an amazing book.  Congratulations to Jon Klassen (who I met in LA!) and all the other talented authors, illustrators, and translators.
